Boma grounds in Masindi Municipality saw a mammoth crowd of young people from all over Masindi district gathered to attend a family planning concert by Public Health Ambassadors Uganda (PHAU).
The concert dubbed “Famile Pulaningi Mu Ndongo” is part of the activities under the YoSpace project that is meant to celebrate young people and raise their awareness about their sexual and reproductive health rights.
Amazing performances ranging from music and drama were presented by Bunyoro’s finest among who included Abitegeka Patrick aka Easy P, Alurile Justine aka Zanvadi, Happy Jalia and Tunaca Troupe who put up powerful cultural music and drama performances.

Prior to the concert day, there was a mobilization drive around Masindi municipality in areas of Kirasa, Kampala and the central business area. Here revellers were treated to exciting dances by spice commandos, a dance group from Hoima.

There was also a series of radio talk shows on Bunyoro Broadcasting Services (BBS FM) sensitizing young people on all issues to do with SRHR. We registered callers from as far as Kiryandongo and Kibale district requesting the YoSpace project to reach out to young people over there too.

However, it should not go without saying that there were plenty of SRH services like family planning, cervical cancer screening, safe male circumcision, condom distribution and other services like blood donation. These were the numbers; HIV counselling and testing received 326 people of which 221 were males and 105 females while 7 men underwent Safe Male Circumcision. Family planning registered 81 women while 67 screened for cervical cancer and 46000 condoms were also distributed as well as 75units of blood were donated.
Over 12000 people were reached both directly and indirectly through mobilization drives, radio talk shows and on concert venue itself.

‘Famile Pulaningi Mu Ndongo’ is a community sensitization activity held under the auspices of the ‘YoSpace’ project, an initiative funded with the generous support from Population Services International Uganda (PSI –Uganda), with an objective to create demand and utilization of sexual and reproductive health rights and services among young women (15-24years) with a focus on long-term family planning services at Profam clinics that offer youth-friendly health services. The project covers districts of Jinja, Hoima, Masindi and Luwero. The concert marks the climax of the YOSPACE project in Masindi district.
