Job Title: Advocacy and Communications Officer

Reports to: Programmes Manager
Job Summary: The Advocacy and Communications Officer provides technical support through empowering and
mentoring young women and girls to led an evidence based SBV project in Luweero district
funded by Frontline AIDS.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
 Build partner professional capacity to engage in research, policy analysis and advocacy at
that level.
 Mainstream and integrate Advocacy in all Program activities.
 Actively coordinate and manage partner evidence-based advocacy function to influence
positive policy change in issues of governance, poverty, rights and justice, SGBV in society
etc.
 Train, form and mentor community advocacy structures in HIV/AIDS, SRH and GBV
related matters.
 Form strategic alliances with civil society organizations and development partners in the
organization’s operational area to influence policy change.
 Mentor and train partners in effective utilization of media to advance advocacy work for
different targeted categories.
 Develop and strengthen collaboration with various stakeholders like line ministries,
district local governments, implementing partners to put forward joint advocacy efforts/
issues for redress.
 Design capacity building packages through developing training materials/curricula for
community groups, Village Health Teams, health workers etc.
 Document experiences and case studies to support learning in different sectors.
 Actively participate in resource mobilization for the organization from time to time.
 Liaise with media outlets to ensure that the appropriate information and messages are
reaching the public, including preparing press releases.
 Prepare promotional material on the project, including pamphlets, newsletters and videos.
Qualification and Experience
 An Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Development Studies or Social Work and Social
Administration, or Social Sciences or Public Health or Communications with a certificate
in advocacy & communication.
 A minimum of three (3) years’ work experience in programme implementation, advocacy
& communication in an NGO setting with experience in working with partner
organizations.
 Must be social media savvy; experience managing social media accounts, website content,
and editing an organizational Website.
 Demonstrable exceptional energy to work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
 Good knowledge of how to use computers and basic MS suite such as word, outlook,
PowerPoint and Excel. Willingness to learn new software.
 Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a diverse team.
 Ability to maintain a calm and professional attitude under pressure or constantly shifting
priorities.
 Demonstrable willingness and zeal to learn and adapt quickly

• Advocacy, rights and communications
• Global, regional and national policies and legislations relating to HIV/AIDS, SRHR and GBV
• Rights of people living with HIV, with a focus on women and young girls living with HIV
• Practices and trends in HIV&AIDS prevention and care in the region and globally
• Knowledge in Sexual Gender Based Violence, Meaningful Youth Participation, Gender
Transformative Approach.
