Open Mic Project is a Poetry training and mentorship program implemented by Open Mic Uganda and Public Health Ambassadors Uganda under the “Culture at Work” grant.
Open Mic Uganda is a company that presents people with a platform that promotes poetry, spoken word, and related art forms. It encourages the enhancement of poetry as a recognized art form that can be used as a tool for education, communication, and entertainment.
Born in November 2010, Open Mic has worked to support and promote performance poets that have gone to become some of the most sought out artists of the art form and continues to offer that platform to date with its monthly poetry sessions and other related projects. We believe that poetry can be a top appreciated and cherished art in Uganda.
The project grant is sponsored by the European Union and is implemented among youth refugees in the Nakivaale refugee settlement in Isingiro District, Uganda.
