YoSpace Commences in Jinja

The commencement of Yospace project once again in Jinja was greatly affected by the COVID19 pandemic however with the ease on the lock-down and some of the measures presented by the President, we recently held our project inception meeting with the District officials and health service providers.  The meeting set the stone rolling for other activities and we also managed to put together a team of vibrant and energetic young people who we call “peer educators.”  These were trained on sexual reproductive health with a keen interest on contraceptive methods for young people and through this engagement the messaging was incorporated with COVID 19 response measures as proclaimed by World Health Organization (WHO) and Ugandan government.   The youth will conduct door to door mobilization, health education on family planning for fellow young people from the communities that they (Peer educators) live in while referring them to the Yospace centers/health facilities for further counseling and service provision.  Peer educators will also participate in scheduled radio talk shows, community outreaches, and hold community dialogue meetings. They will also sensitise their fellow youth on how to use the phau app.  At PHAU we hope that the increased awareness will bridge the knowledge gap, facilitate the bursting of myths and misconceptions surrounding the uptake of family planning for young people.  We hope that our endeavors will reduce the number of teenage pregnancies in the district since it is one of the most affected eastern districts especially in these times that young people are on lock-down with their perpetrators.
